Summary

This program will provide an introduction address current treatment regimens, individual and community-level prevention and treatment of youth living with HIV/AIDS, and opportunities and barriers for inclusion of youth in HIV/AIDS clinical trials. Additionally, we will review Florida law as it pertains to HIV testing, including partner notification, privilege to warn, and testing in pregnant women.

This program is approved by the Florida Board of Pharmacy to meet the educational requirements outlined in Florida Administrative Code Rule 64B16-26.103 for pharmacists renewing their license for the first time in Florida.

Objectives

Upon completion of this module, you should be able to:

  • Summarize the epidemiology of HIV infections in adolescents and relation to prevention & treatment strategies
  • Discuss the use of PrEP in adolescent women and young adult women to prevent spread of HIV
  • List new medications used in PrEP and HIV prevention
  • Review the management of HIV positive children and adolescents
  • Review Florida law as it pertains to HIV testing
  • Review Florida law as it pertains to HIV testing, including partner notification.
