Summary
Pharmacists have an important role in providing diabetes management. The content of this program will provide the pharmacist with a review of the pathophysiology of diabetes, oral and injectable diabetes medications, and therapeutic plan development. Utilizing current guidelines and recommendations, this program will provide the learner with the knowledge and skills necessary to provide routine management of diabetes in outpatient settings. The key concepts will be addressed though case applications.
This course is approved by the Florida Board of Pharmacy for 6.0 contact hours to meet requirements pursuant to CHAPTER 64B16-26, Florida Statutes, and Rule 64B16-26.300, Florida Administrative Code.
Objectives
At the completion of this activity, the participant will be able to:
- Discuss the pathophysiology and diagnosis of type 1, type 2, and gestational diabetes.
- List oral and injectable medications including dosing, efficacy, safety, drug interactions and monitoring.
- Develop individualized therapeutic plans for the treatment of diabetes based on patient specific conditions.
- Monitor the effectiveness of therapeutic plans and make necessary adjustments.
Requirements for Successful Course Completion
In order to earn credit for this course, participants must pass a final assessment with a score of 70% or higher. Two chances to pass the final assessment will be given. If a passing score is not earned by the second attempt, the participant must re-enroll in the course. Upon successful completion of all coursework, participants must complete a course evaluation form.
