The University of Florida, along with our public health allies throughout the state and nation have been closely monitoring the local, national, and worldwide developments during the last several weeks related to COVID-19. We have the made the decisions outlined below for the March 27-28 Consultant Pharmacist Certification Program and the March 28th APhA Pharmacy-Based Immunization Delivery Program in consideration of the health, safety and security of our participants, program faculty, the patients and communities they serve, as well as our University of Florida College of Pharmacy faculty and staff. We appreciate your understanding of the programmatic changes and would like to offer our sincerest wishes that you and your family and friends remain healthy during this time.

The UF Office of Continuing Pharmacy Education Response for March Live Consultant Program
In response to the COVID-19 public health emergency, we have decided to move the program from a live face-to-face delivery to a completely online program. We are currently working with our program faculty and staff to pre-record the educational content and convert it to an online, self-paced format so that we are able to provide you with the educational program you need to become licensed as a consultant pharmacist or to renew your consultant pharmacist license. Of course, we understand that some of you may prefer the live, face-to-face learning experience, which is why we are also providing additional options to meet your educational needs.
Alternative Options to Meet Your Educational Needs
- Offering the program online:
- Our office is working with our program faculty to pre-record the educational content so that the program will be fully online and self-paced. Our goal is to have the content available to you no later than Friday, April 10. Our goal is to always provide a high-quality educational program regardless of whether it is online or a live, face-to-face program, which is why we are adding the additional time to be able to provide you with the material.
- Participants Registered for Initial Licensure: The educational requirements will remain the same with initial participants being required to view the recorded lectures, complete the case assessments, and pass the 50-question post-examination with a 70% or more to be eligible to receive a certificate of completion required by the Florida Board of Pharmacy for initial licensure. Credit will not be reported to your Florida PS License Number; however, credit will be reported to your NABP e-profile ID. As a reminder, the Florida Board of Pharmacy considers reporting credit to your PS and PU license number double-dipping which is why we are not able to report credit to your PS license number if you want to become licensed as a consultant pharmacist in Florida.
- Participants Registered for Recertification Credit: The educational requirements will remain the same as the initial requirements; however, we will not require you to complete the case assignments and your post-examination will only be 25 questions. Upon successful course completion, credit will be reported to your Florida PU License Number and your NABP e-profile ID.
- Transfer registration to another live consultant program date: We would like to offer you the opportunity to transfer to one of our other live 2020 Consultant Pharmacist Certification Programs. Our 2020 scheduled dates: May 29-30 in Gainesville, Florida. and September 17-18 in Miramar, Florida. We are currently working to add an additional date to Orlando or Jacksonville for August, October or November. Please stay tuned for more details.
- Transfer registration to an online program: We would also like to provide the option to transfer your registration to one of our other online, consultant pharmacist recertification or certificate programs valued at the same cost of the live registration.
- Option to receive full refund: We understand that none of these options may meet your educational needs, so we are also offering to waive our refund policy and provide you with a full refund. At this time, this option only applies to the March program.

Alternative Options to Meet your Educational Needs
- Transfer registration Saturday, May 30: We would like to offer you the opportunity to transfer your registration to the Saturday, May 30 program in Gainesville, Florida. We are also looking to reschedule the program for later in the year, but we are not able to provide any specific details at this time.
- Option to receive full refund: We understand that the option to transfer may not meet your educational needs, so we are also offering to waive our refund policy and to provide you with a full refund. This option only applies to the participants registered for the March program.
Should Medical Conferences Be Canceled for COVID-19?
The answer is yes.
According to an article recently published on MedScape, medical conferences occurring in the next couple of months should be canceled or held virtually and should be reevaluated within the next few months. Please see the excerpt from the “Should Medical Conferences Be Canceled for COVID-19?” article. You can see a full list of medical conferences that have been canceled on MedScape.
According to F. Perry Wilson, MD, MSCE, “There’s a pretty straightforward case here. Medical professionals are at higher risk for exposure to coronavirus because we come into contact with lots and lots of patients. Gathering a large group of medical professionals in a single place increases the risk for exposure further. Factor in airplane flights to and from the conferences and the chance that infection is spread is significant. And remember, although many of us are lucky enough to be relatively healthy and thus at low risk for significant complications, many of our patients are not ”
