Appropriate Use of Inhalers with Asthma and COPD

Techniques for the appropriate use of the available inhaler devices are discussed in this program, both in written and video format.  After participating in this program, the participant will be able to select an appropriate inhaler device for a patient and counsel the patient on its correct use.


Chronic Pain Management in the Elderly

Various treatment strategies for chronic pain in elderly patients are discussed in this program as well as potential barriers to implementing appropriate pain management strategies in these patients.


Clostridium difficile Infection in the Elderly

The Clostridium difficile program focuses on these infections in the elderly, including risk factors, signs and symptoms, diagnostic tests, and treatment regimens.  


End-of-Life Care: Comfort in Crisis

This course will describe common end-of-life symptoms and describe pharmacologic and non-pharmacologic therapies used to treat respective end-of-life symptoms.


Laws Surrounding the Use of Chemical Restraints

Medications used as chemical restraints in the elderly are discussed in this program, including laws and regulations for the use of such restraints.  Focus is also given to strategies that can be used to decrease the use of chemical restraints in the elderly.


Minimizing Risk of Hypoglycemia in the Elderly

Strategies to minimize risk of hypoglycemia in patients receiving drug therapy for type 2 diabetes are discussed in this program.


Prevention and Management of Herpes Zoster (Shingles) in Geriatric Patients

Herpes zoster infections in the elderly are described, including risk factors and signs and symptoms.  Treatment regimens for herpes zoster and postherpetic neuralgia are discussed, as well as shingles vaccine options.
