New! Kratom as a popular product for self-treatment: An overview for pharmacists

Over the past decade, products derived from the leaves of the Kratom (Mitragyna speciosa) tree have gained popularity in the U.S. Kratom products are reported to be used for a range of self-treatment options including pain, mental disorders, mitigation of drug withdrawal symptoms, and mood elevation in general. This course will provide an overview of kratom’s known pharmacology, chemistry, pharmacokinetics, and use patterns.

This course is approved by the Florida Board of Pharmacy for 4.0 contact hours to meet requirements pursuant to CHAPTER 64B16-26, Florida Statutes and Rule 64B16-26.300, Florida Administrative Code.

Naloxone: The Gift of Time

This program is designed to prepare pharmacists for the responsibility of counseling and educating patients and caregivers on signs of opioid overdose and naloxone use in order to improve patient access to naloxone. This program will describe the national overdose concerns associated with opioids, review proper administration of the available naloxone formulations, and describe the current naloxone access laws in place.

The goal of this program is to review these conditions and their treatments so as to better understand how they fit into the overall risk picture for metabolic syndrome. Learners will successfully view recorded lecture content available online via an online Learning Management System, complete required readings, and assessment activities for a total of 6.0 hours of CPE.
